One of the things that can make a discussion around mental health daunting is that we are all so different…. even if we have been given a label that is the same as someone else’s.
Let’s look at suffering from panic attacks as an example.
There are some common physiological responses eg symptoms resulting from a flight, fight or freeze response; a rush of adrenaline, heart beat quickening to increase blood to muscles in preparation for ‘something’. This ‘something’ is different for everyone (or maybe imperceptible), and so is the trigger for the panic attacks in the first instance. Some people may not be aware of triggers or connections to causes.
Other common physical symptoms vary from person to person; dizziness, nausea, hyperventilation, tingling, ringing in ears etc. When we begin to explore how we can all react in detail, we realise it is amazingly different.
The physical sensations are
linked to
emotional and mental processes
and are not the same for everyone.
Homeopathy consultations provide a supported safe space for people to explore their symptoms, and in this setting people can often make some connections between their physical and mental experiences for themselves which highlight a very individual response.
For example ‘dizziness’ may be described by someone as ‘floating’ or by someone else as ‘spinning’ or another as ‘blankness’ and actually many things that might surprise us… it is a subtly different experience for everyone. It becomes even more of a unique experience when we consider an individual’s sequence of symptoms, what occurs with what, when, how, where, what makes it better or worse and so on.
Therefore it also makes sense that what supports one person, does not necessarily support another. Homeopathy focuses on the unique aspects of an individual and further considers life experiences (from birth), personal health history and family genetics.
The resulting overall symptom picture may be the accumulation of an intricate series of events and personal experiences and perceptions.
With homeopathy it is possible to plot all the current symptoms and experiences along with past health patterns to begin to unravel the current state of dis-ease. It is an empowering process where the individual is given space to consider their own perceptions of their experiences.
So the homeopathic consultation process in itself is hugely valuable and empowering. But there is more… the life force/ vitality/ energy of the person is also stimulated using the energy of a similar remedy.
All substances vibrate at a unique vibrational resonance. All substances have unique effects upon the human body, from affinities to particular organs and systems, to strong mental and emotional effects.
Like cures like (Hippocrates 460BC).
Therefore in homeopathy, we aim to fully understand the unique experience of the individual (physical, mental and emotional) and match this picture to that of a remedy. The energy of the remedy stimulates that of the body to heal itself physically, mentally and emotionally.
The World Health Organisation says:
Mental health is defined as a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.
In homeopathy, we aim to fully support without judgement and use a remedy to stimulate each individual to realise their full and unique potential.
If you are interested in how homeopathy may be able to help you or someone you know, feel free to get in touch and ask any questions you may have or book a free 20 minute consultation to discuss.
You are encouraged to meet up or talk over the telephone before you make a consultation to explore whether you will feel comfortable about who you will talk to (as little or as much as you want), and what the process might involve. Of course, the process is client led because it is your journey and your health, and as a homeopath it is a privilege to walk beside an individual.
